Rooms description
The Georgian, Black Lion Hotel is a famous landmark , overlooking the green in the historical town of Long Melford. It has been refurbished to combine the best in homely comforts with the finery of modern dining. Once you arrive at the Black Lion a warm welcome is assured and then the difficult decision where to dine.... the slightly more formal restaurant with the starched linen tablecloths and soft primrose coloured walls, the informal restaurant with the log fire crackling is the ideal room for private parties up to 20(great for those office get to - gether's) or the informal bar with views across the green. Wherever you dine the menu is the same and the dining has been awarded an AA rosette .Annette our head chef is happy to accommodate all dietary requirements and was delighted to be praised by the celiac society for offering interesting dishes. She specialises in using seasonal and local ingredients and has gained fame for her Black Lion Cream Teas which are available every day. The restaurant has antique furnishings with doors opening onto the Victorian walled garden, the ideal location for a relaxing Pimms in the summer.A great favourite with guests is to dine on the terrace and watch the world go by whilst gazing at the impressive turrets of Melford Hall the glorious National Trust Tudor mansion . In the winter the roaring log fires are the place to curl up infront of with a good book. The ten en suite bedrooms which have been refurbished to the highest standard, offer unexpected luxury in this rural village .All are light and airy with individual styles , furnished with a delightful blend of antiques and artifacts from all over the world. Four bedrooms offer four poster beds for those romantic occasions. Plus the Sancerre suite is ideal for honeymoon's as the lounge is the perfect setting for a private breakfast. The Chianti room is suitable for families, as it has one double room with a separate African themed room with tower beds and toys if required.
